FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (March 2, 2026)—Every year, IBBY Canada presents the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award to a Canadian illustrator in recognition of outstanding artistic talent in a Canadian picture book.

This year, 10 finalists were selected from 134 books submitted by 40 publishers.

According to the jury: “The illustrators of the 10 finalist books depict stories that stir the imagination, tackle big topics, and teach us new things. They show us the world, real and imagined, in the past, present, and future. As you read these outstanding books, see and feel the depth of colour in every spread and look for surprise details that help lead you from page to page. Readers of all ages will be inspired by the varied art styles on display.”

The Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award is administered by a committee of three members of IBBY Canada. The winner will be announced at the IBBY Canada Annual Meeting of Members on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Details for the virtual meeting will be available on IBBY Canada’s social media in the coming weeks, and all are invited to attend.

IBBY, the International Board on Books for Young People, was founded in 1953. It is a network of organizations in 80 countries committed to bringing books and children together.

IBBY Canada, established in 1980, is a volunteer organization promoting quality French and English Canadian children’s literature nationally and internationally.

POUR DIFFUSION IMMÉDIATE : (Le 2 mars 2026)—Chaque année, IBBY Canada (Union internationale pour les livres jeunesse—section canadienne) présente le Prix Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver pour un album canadien à un illustrateur canadien afin de reconnaître les qualités artistiques remarquables des illustrations dans un livre jeunesse canadien.

Cette année, 10 finalistes ont été sélectionnés parmi les 134 livres soumis par 40 éditeurs.

Selon le jury, les illustrateurs des 10 albums finalistes dépeignent des contes qui stimulent l’imaginaire, abordent de grands enjeux et nous enseignent de nouveaux savoirs.  Ils nous proposent le monde réel et imaginaire, celui du passé, du présent et du futur. Lorsque vous lisez ces livres, regardez et ressentez l’intensité de la couleur dans une double page, cherchez les détails étonnants qui vous guident de page en page. Les lecteurs de tous âges sauront être inspirés les styles variés d’art auxquels ils sont exposés.
