1996 – Ronald Jobe

Ronald Jobe has devoted his professional and academic life to the promotion of Canadian children’s literature in Canada and abroad. Dr. Jobe is a professor in the University of British Columbia’s Department of Language and Literacy Education, and in the teaching faculty of the Children’s Literature Program. He helped establish children’s literature roundtables across Canada, including the Vancouver Children’s Literature Roundtable, and coordinates Serendipity, a yearly children’s literature conference. In recognition of his excellence in teaching children’s literature, Ron received the International Reading Association’s Arbuthnot Award in 1998, the only recipient from outside the US. Ron was also the first Canadian president of IBBY International.
