Volunteer Spotlight: Andrew Dupuis

The IBBY Canada Board welcomes volunteers with all sorts of skills from chatting with passers-by at The Word on the Street events, to proofreading or translating newsletter items, to reading with refugee children… and so much more.

For this first newsletter of 2019, we are featuring volunteer extraordinaire, Andrew Dupuis.

Production Designer for Kids Can Press in Toronto for the last five years, Andrew has a deep knowledge of the children’s book publishing environment and a wealth of design and tech skills. He has volunteered these skills to assist on several recent IBBY Canada projects. He brought the 2018 Hans Christian Andersen Award nomination dossier for Isabelle Arsenault to life with his astute eye for image selection and placement, and recently updated the 2020 nomination dossier for us. As if this was not amazing enough, he was also the designer of IBBY Canada’s beautiful catalogue From Sea to Sea to Sea: Celebrating Indigenous Picture Books.

Asked why he volunteers, Andrew replied, “IBBY Canada is constantly exploring underrepresented aspects of children’s publishing, giving support to Canadian creators, and finding ways to make it all accessible to children, which is pretty awesome if you ask me. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Thank you Andrew and all our other outstanding volunteers. For more information about volunteering opportunities, please contact your regional councillor: https://www.ibby-canada.org/about/
