Welcome to this AGM edition of the IBBY Canada newsletter.
The AGM, held on June 17th in Toronto, provided an opportunity to reflect upon accomplishments, welcome new colleagues, celebrate IBBY founder Jella Lepman — and look to the future.
All of this is featured in this edition of the newsletter with a year-in-review from IBBY Canada President, Mary Beth Leatherdale; an excerpt of the presentation at the AGM on “The Lady with the Books” by Kathy Stinson, her upcoming book on IBBY founder Jella Lepman; an introduction to new IBBY Canada board members Frances Gao, Nicholas Aumais and Jean-François Sénéchal; and, a preview of IBBY Canada’s request for your involvement in its strategic planning for the next three years.
Also, in this edition is the speech Deborah Ellis prepared for the 2019 OLA Super Conference Panel. We are thrilled Deborah gave permission for us to share these words, which seem particularly meaningful as World Refugee Day was just recognized on June 20th.
Lastly, if you have the travel bug we have some destinations for you with notices of IBBY activities upcoming in Lampedusa, Italy; Austin, Texas; and Xi’an, China.
Here’s to a wonderful 2019!
