Enjoy the International Children’s Book Day Activity Kit
A fun and engaging activity kit to celebrate the joy of reading. The kit Includes template to make a fortune-teller and a bookmaking activity based on Richard Van Camp’s message to the children of the world (printable template included).
The activity kit is perfect for classroom use and library programs. It can also be enjoyed at home with families, too.
International Children’s Book Day Message templates available in English, French, Northern Dialect Michif, Tlicho, Spanish, German, Māori, and Portuguese. As well, there is a blank template to to make your own!
Combined, the catalogues include 125 recommended picture books by Indigenous authors, many illustrated by Indigenous artists, published in Canada over the last 25 years and currently in print.
Reflects the diverse cultures, perspectives and experiences of Inuit, Métis and 29 First Nations.
Highlights picture books that promote Indigenous languages, with 15 different languages/dialects represented.
Features books for children of all ages, ranging from board books to picture books for older readers.
Readings can include activities and discussion found in the Educators’ Resource created for the second edition of the From Sea to Sea to Sea catalogue.
Thank you to the first classroom to join the ICBD 2022 party: Mr. Filewich’s Grade 5/6 class at Southwest Horizon School in Souris, MB, will be celebrating the day with readings and activities!

Libraries across Canada are joining in the ICBD 2022 celebrations, including:
During the week leading up to ICBD, many of Edmonton Public Library’s 21 locations will be offering special Family Storytimes highlighting Canadian Indigenous authors and illustrators featured in the From Sea to Sea to Sea catalogues under the ICBD 2022 theme “Stories are wings that help you soar every day.” Special guests from the Indigenous community have been invited to join EPL staff in celebrating ICBD and acknowledging the work of IBBY while sharing these stories with children of all ages.
North Vancouver District Library is Celebrating International Children’s Book Day!
North Vancouver District Library (NVDPL) would like to acknowledge IBBY Canada and International Children’s Book Day on April 2 by hosting and participating in several events in April to promote first-language books and readers, children’s books set around the world, and the library’s collection of dual-language picture books.
NVDPL supports home languages by holding over 800 dual-language picture books in 40 languages including over 10 Indigenous languages. Thanks to a Raise-a-Reader grant and a partnership with the North Vancouver City Library, North Vancouver District Public Library will also launch their First Language Storytime kits in six languages. Stay tuned for details in April at nvdpl.ca!

Printed posters may also be ordered at a cost of $20 for shipping (within Canada only). Four posters will be included in each order. Posters will be shipped between February 21 and March 11, 2022.
