At the closing ceremony of the 39th IBBY World Congress in Trieste, IBBY Canada was honoured to officially welcome the world to Ottawa in 2026 with a video featuring 19 Canadian and Indigenous children’s book authors and illustrators and advocates.
The video participants represent the diversity of the Canadian children’s literature community from coast to coast to coast: from Sydney Smith, the first-ever Canadian to win the Hans Christian Andersen Award, in Nova Scotia; to Danny Ramadan, LGBTQAI+-refugee activist and current Chair of the Writers’ Union of Canada, in British Columbia.
Thank you so much to all the participants for lending their time and talent to the video, and to Hadley Dyer and Fred Horler for their work creating it.
