Seven books, two awards, a library, a marathon, an historic hike—and a baby! What a year 2022 was for IBBY Canada board members.
It is such an honour to work with IBBY Canada board of directors who are generous in their commitment to bringing books and children together, so giving of their time—and so incredibly accomplished!
I am delighted to shout-out some of the remarkable highlights from members of the board of directors in 2022:
Nicholas Aumais, Regional Councillor Quebec, had three books published:
Solo le singe – Et sa famille extraordinaire, published by Éditions les Malins
Les mésaventures d’Ivanhoé 1 : Danger à Brumes Obscures, published by Boomerang
Dr. Lesley Clement, Regional Councillor Ontario, marked the release of the book Children and Childhoods in L.M. Montgomery, published by McGill-Queens University Press, which she co-edited. (Also of note: the fantastic launch event that included participants from Japan, Finland, Ireland, Slovakia, Sweden, USA and more…)
Lorisia MacLeod, Co-Regional Councillor Alberta, was named a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal, citing Lorisia’s work with oral teachings and the creation of citation templates for Indigenous oral histories and teachings.
Marcela Mangarelli, 1st Vice President, continued her work in Magisterio, Mexico, a small community on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, with La Escuelita, a community-based library that focuses on the creation of love of reading for children from families with limited access to education and cultural opportunities.
Trish Osuch, Website Editor, completed the Hamilton marathon (26.2 miles!) in a personal best time!!
Colette Poitras, Co-Regional Councillor Alberta and Chair of the Indigenous Picture Book Collection, was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of her significant contributions to Alberta.
Josiane Polidori, 2nd Vice President, hiked the historic Camino de Santiago trail in Spain.
Many congratulations to all the board members for their incredible accomplishments—and still making time for IBBY Canada.
